Hello:

New here. Please before the bashing starts I would to know any and all about Suzuki Outboards. Never had any time with them, only know of Honda Yamaha Mercury, more of the staple norms etc. Not saying any bad about them just was looking to purchase boat and they seem to be every where lately. Boat I am look at has twin 200 or 250 4 strokes 2008.

Anything would be helpful. I would hate to buy boat and have problems, no fun there.

Thanks a lot.:D

Re: Worth having?

Like the other major manufacturers, Suzuki makes good engines.

Unlike the other majors, Suzuki has a lot of experience making water cooled, 4 stroke, EFI engines for vehicles.

I don't think that makes them better, but it does indicate that they know what they are about.

Re: Worth having?

I would not hesitate one second to recommend a Suzuki. Just purchased a new DF250 to replace the older DT225 ( which is now in 2 stroke heaven ).
Chomping at the bit to get her home and on the water.

Re: Worth having?

When I set out to buy a used boat with twin outboards...I specifically focused on Suzuki 4-strokes based upon the reports I was hearing from people who use theirs A LOT...rather than the guy that goes out once a month. They seemed to hold up well and when properly maintained...hours-of-use run into the thousands. Other makers may also fit this description...but in my area...Suzuki seems to predominate with high hour users.

Thank you all for your responses. Just did not want to spend a bunch of money for problems that could be avoided.

Thanks again and see you all on the water!

Ship Wrecked unless the Boat is Brand New. You should have it surveyed and ran in the lake or Ocean before finalizing any purchase. Stick close to the surveyor YOU HIRE and he will teach you a lot.

Re: Worth having?

I have a 2008 Suzy on my pontoon and it has performed flawlessly thus far. Seems to be easy to work on although oil changes can get messy. Does not have the "making oil" issue (oil contamination from excess fuel) due to lugging or continued slow speed operation that some other manufacturers dealt with.

Re: Worth having?

ALL 4 stroke outboard engine manufactures have had issues with making oil. all have tech bullitens over the years on correcting it.
most of the times its the particular application or the customer usage that is addressd not a design flaw.
suzuki makes a very nice product.
in my area service and warrenty has been an issue.
some, like all brands, have had issues with corrosion especially in marinas, but most times thats not a design issue but an environmental one.
if we were a suzuki dealer I would have one on the back of my boat.
but having worked for honda, mercury, mariner, force, suzuki and yamaha over the past 25 yrs or so we have seen about all of it and mostly the products just keep getting better.
other than that, like you were advised, if its not new have a hull AND mechanical survey done.
BEFORE buying it.
most insurance companies on large boats with twins will require it anyway.
