Re: Would I get into trouble with the CG?

BTW, boat manufacturers set HP ratings for a reason. They have designed and tested the boat. And the formulas used for calculating hp haven't changed over the years. Changing decals on the cowling won't change the hp. If you're in an accident, a sharp attorney will pick up on that, and the case of negligence against you will look even worse.
Maybe - hard to tell the difference sometimes. An attorney might have a hard time telling if my zuki has stock port heights or not and finding an expert may require a translator too. :D
But in any case, the Coast Guard formula is way beyond it's time and is bull$hit IMO. Anybody who doesn't think so should go ride in a 500 lbs flattie with a 900 hp V-drive that is perfectly legal and tell me that this outboard only law matters. Because if they ever outlaw my 700lbs hull with a 200 on it, that's what I'll be getting to replace it.

BTW- inlines are tough to tell but can be spotted with a bore scope to find the powerports present in a 140/150 and later (85or86+) ADI 115's.

Sorrydog, is that your Hydrostream in the pic? I know where I can get one, the guy wants $800 obo (it needs work and only has a Merc 1000 on it). He has had it for sale for over a year now, as that type of boat is useless on my lake unless there is a flat calm (which is rare, there is almost always at least a 1 foot chop). I want it very badly, but cannot justify the expense of the rebuild the boat will need. I can't remember, the Hydrostream does have a normal 20 inch transom, right? I had figured I could swap my Merc 1250 from Skanky Beast onto the 'stream and put the Merc 1000 on the Beast.

For giggles, I'd run a can of Power-Tune through the 1000, and do whatever tuning it needed, and see how it does 1st.

-W

Yup - they all need work.

You can count on the transom being rotten and the core probably needs replacing too.

I'm OK with 1' chop once you get on top and aired out. It's the rollers that these boat don't deal with very well.

By the looks of that boat, it should be free to $100 and you pay for what the motor is worth in parts. I'd say $350 max.

BTW- Here's your damn coast guard rule-- A Vector with a 300drag on it. :D

http://www.byuboyz.com/parade/mov00043.mpg

That crazy coonass says he has run 109 with it.
