Re: Would it be a bad idea to fish in the rain in a boat?

Used to fish in the rain all the time on my dads boat.. Even when the waves were running 3-5' out of Oswego on Ontario. It was rough going out, but we turned the boat around and just ran with them. It wasn't raining when we went out, but we cought lots of fish when it started. But, the boats my dad has had, always have a working manual bilge pump and a bailing bucket.

For the most part, no its not a problem to fish in the rain.... Many fiberglass boats have self bailing decks that drain overboard on their own, and most boats of all types have at least one bilge pump to rid the hull of water. If you are fishing in a little jon boat with no bilge pump in it, then i suggest you bring a plastic cup, or even a clorox bottle with the top cut off so you can bail the boat if the rain is really heavy.

What type of boat are we talking about here?

If you have to ask, I'd say it's a bad idea for you to go out in a boat, rain or shine.

And yes, it's a bad idea because your beer gets watered down.

your beer gets watered down cuz you dont drink it fast enough i shook my head when coors came out with the replaceable cap can i asked what that was for cuz my beer was never open long enough to be recapped

You'd be better served if you cut the bottom off that clorox bottle.

So if it rains really hard, you might get a few inches of water in the boat. No big deal.

I prefer them with the TOPs cut off also! :D

If you remove the upper front half opposite the handle it is easy to scoop and is more stable to dump as all the weight still hangs from the handle.
If you remove the bottom, all the weight is above your hand instead of below it.
It will also still stand up when full if needed.
It can double as small minnow bucket.

To each his own.:)
