Hey, I saw that on CL too. If you break it down the parts may be worth as much or more than the whole. I'm not crazy about Mercs but if you are take off the motor and replace it with an old 8 or 9.9 johnson and resell.

BUT, does it have a clean title? None of that homemade title crap people are always trying to pass off.

Orlando Clippers are well liked by folks that like Orlando clippers and the trailer looks to be worth 2 - $300

Bottom line - Is it worth it to you?

I like the Mercury because of the ability to shift from the tiller. I run a tiller extension on my Gheenoe and that makes it nice to not have to reach waaayyy back to shift to neutral or reverse. I have an old ugly and battered 62 Evinrude 5.5 that runs well enough that I will slap on the Orlando Clipper and try to sell it. I was hoping to get 500-600 for that package. I don't know if that is realistic. Any thoughts?

That Merc is a very good motor and the trailer looks good too, if the boat is in good shape it's not a bad deal. Needs to be the type of boat you want though.

I don't want the boat or trailer I just want the motor but I will resell the trailer and boat with an old evenrude and keep the motor for my 15'4 Gheenoe Highsider. A lot of trouble for just a motor but its the only way I can swing it. I just don't want to loose my A** in the process lol.

No good reason. Just prejudiced from past experience where problems with Mercs was probably my own lack of knowledge. Actually after you mentioned the tiller shift I remembered using one and my first thought was, what a dumb idea, until I used it and then I thought, what a great idea.

I just bought a boat with a Merc 25 and the guy had a marina install a side shift conversion, he hated the tiller shift on Mercs. I had a 15 w/ tiller shift and I didn't really care for it either, had to be so careful not to shift and give too much throttle, throw myself out the back of the boat, lol.

I some how forgot the part about you just wanting the motor. The 6hp through 15hp share many of the same components in this series of Merc. They run very well. Some people don't like the shift in the handle, I love it, but it has more to do with how we fish with kickers than anything else. In normal use the shift in the tiller isn't a big deal either way.

Re: Would this be a good deal???

Great info! Thank you all! So I will run the boat with the new Mercury 15 tomorrow since I just picked it up today :joyous: I feel as though my Gamefisher 15 was kind of lacking in top end power, I was only getting around 14 to 15 mph WOT with my self 260 lb, my girlfriend 130lbs, a group 27 battery 1000000 lbs, a Minn Kota 30# Endura TM, and about 40-50 lbs of gear and about 4 gallons of gas. This was even though the boat would plane really well and relatively fast. My mechanic said that Gamefishers were low for good bottom end power but had a reputation for lacking top end speed. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you guys think this new motor will help boost my top speed? The Gamefisher was a two blade prop and the Mercury is a three blade, will that help or hinder my top speed?

Thanks agian!
