You could call your local paper and have them do a story.

Or tell the owner of the marina thats what your gonna do.

I would immediately take the baot back to the dealer and have it looked over. The burning smell could be a wire short, burnt gimbal bearings, main bearings, or just something minor. I agree with most of the posters that bilge should be spotless after service. Any burning smell is bad on a boat.

Welcome aboard DDog,

You should probably reread this thread from start to finish . . . Doc has been running the boat, it's got good power etc. He is in communication with the dealer, they have given him a carp answer so far, but he decided to enjoy the boat for the time being and deal with it later. Maybe not the best decision, but he does not need to committ hari-kari either. He can't easily return the boat to the dealer as it is slipped.

Agree a leak and burning smell are not good, but he is not spinning main bearings . . . he has been out and back many times since this developed.

Reel post the name of the guy who fixed it so if someone else needs a good shop they will know where to go.

I fixed it for him, I made him stop that day and get the gaskets at NAPA and we fixed it that night in his garage. Who needs a mechanic or marina to change a couple of valve cover gaskets?

The hardest part was not getting the interior dirty since the engine lid on that boat opened rearward like a clam shell, I had to climb over the fancy rear seat to reach the motor. Even the area around the engine lid was upholstered in White and red Vinyl.

Re: Would this bother you??? Worry or Not???

Thanks guys! I called the shop again, they claimed they came out some time ago and tighted the valve cover bolts. I have no way to prove this one way or the other...

We had it out a week ago and it seemed to run fine, albeit the burning smell remained. I need to get down in the engine compartment and have a look around. Frustrating, but as QC stated, we are just enjoying the boat and justify the slip payment!

Hopefully it will keep running well and we can find a new mechanic, there are several reasons I would not take it back to the original shop. I was happy with the sale, but the service department is terrible.

Thanks

I'd email them a link to this thread, and let them know thousands of people are reading it. ;)

The highlighted area looks like your power steering pump to me.

I think it would bother me, too. The water is coming from somewhere?
