Yeah Ryan, if he's a good friend, and you have that mutual understanding of the boat, and your friendship...then yeah I would. I'd also make sure the boat was ready to go this spring (as you've said it is), and that he also confirms with you that its ready to go. Take him out on it, show him the ropes, etc and then enjoy your boats.

If he's at all gun shy, then don't see it to him, if he's been asking, let him have first chance.

As a friend, yes, he may lean on you when/if there are issues with the boat...but that's what friends do for each other.

Re: Would you sell a boat to a friend?

My friends and I have swapped many a toy and gone in on multiple joint ventures over our years. Never a problem yet. All are like brothers to me with a few of them going back 45+ years. In our little group, there's always been respect and integrity between each other. There's not one of us that wouldn't come running to help one another. I have no problem doing business with any of them because I can look them in the eye with the confidence that we understand each other and we look out for each other's best interests. I'm lucky to have had these guys in my life. We've earned each other's respect and something like a boat that may go bad isn't going to change that. The thought of any of them pulling a fast one isn't even on the table.

Would you sell it to a complete stranger ?

Without complete disclosure you shouldnt be selling it at all LOL..

Unless your Friends are completely inadiquate to understand what there gettin into ( pros and cons ) then yea I would sell to an aquantance.. Your disclosing everything that you know...they make the choice..

Sell for a fair price and move on..

Re: Would you sell a boat to a friend?

With everything I sell I am open and honest enough that I COULD be selling it to a friend.... I have MANY friends that I met by selling them something. If I thought a friend was making an unwise purchase I would advise against it whether it was from me or someone else. That said..... all my friends are adults and I'd be in the wrong to outright refuse them a sale.

The friend part of this has been well covered now as to the boat breaking down first trip out, it is mechanical with moving parts, it can break down at anytime and anywhere. It really has nothing to do with age if it has been well maintained, brand new breaks down as well, it is just a fact of life that mechanical things break. If he wants it as has been stated, be honest and give full disclosure, mark the bill of sale with the "Sold as is, No Warranty" statement and sell the boat if you want to, you will both be happy. :D

:D:D:DIf this is a good friend I would let them use the boat for a while. Then they should know what they are getting. If not a real good friend then, tell them it is what it is and sell to someone else. Heck you can get a used boat from a dealer and it might go tits up. This should not be a big deal. Buck up!
