Wrong ECM?

A few months back I has posted about all of the problems that I was having with my 1999 5.0GI. Changed sensors injectors distributor had the ECM rebuilt. Finally got so disgusted I took out the fuel injection and went old school carb. Well the motor runs fine I was going to sell the parts when I came across something odd. The specs for that motor say I should have a MEFI 1 ECM. I checked the one that came off it is a MEFI 3. Is it possible that the previous owner had a problem and had the ECM replaced and they installed the wrong one? Would the motor not run correctly with the wrong ECM? All of the problems were timing related. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

My 1999 5.0 Gi PWTR has a MEFI 3 (DELPHI 16237009) and that is how it arrived from new and has always run without problems.

By 1999 most of all the manufactures were using MEFI 3's and looking at some of the parts diagrams for your engine models show they all should of been MEFI 3's as well.

Now a days, should one of the older ECM's go bad, there is a kit available that comes with a new wire harness and an MEFI 4 ECM. It can cost around $2,300.00 though if you don't shop around for it.

The reason I thought some thing was wrong is because when I looked up the VP spec it said MEFI 1 ECM. I thought that I has figured out what was wrong. Doesn't matter now any way. As I said I went Old School.
