i just noticed that the flywheel on my 1970 johnson 60 inline 3 says that it 1969 V4. um...is this a problem? engine idles well but slowly loses power and then surges.
i was just wondering if is ok to have on this motor. I didn't know if someone had put it on there by mistake. I am sure it is probably fine but i wanted some expert advice.
Take a look at the BRP Parts website. It goes back to 1968 models and may answer your question. I looked at the flywheel p/n's for 3 and 4 cylinder motors for both 1969 and 1970 and they are different, not common. You may indeed have a timing problem. Good luck.
Let me clarify. I did not mean that the flywheels are interchangeable across models. I meant that they used the same casting molds for more than one model, therefor it has more than one set of timing marks. And one in particular does have a "B" timing mark and says 1969 V-4 beside it. It also has an "A" timing mark that is not used on the V-4. Some flywheels have a triangular and a square timing mark, use as applicable.
