Everytime I have to get a driveline part or u-joints I like to go into K-gans Auto parts Store( won't say the full name) and try to get the kid to bet me he is going give me the wrong Flange gasket or u-joints. So I give him my specks for my truck.. I also tell him that it is for the long bed with the heavy duty driveline. Not the shortbed. He replies, "there all the same." I really don't think so, comes out of my mouth . He comes back and hands me the Flange gasket that goes to my Manifold and pipe.. I look at it.. No that is not it.. "Sure it is". I'm telling you that is not the right size. The kid ask me if I am sure if this is what I need.. Ya, I need a Flange Gasket, couldn't you hear my truck as I pulled in, I just blew it out on the way here. So he runs it again and say's," that is the part required.." Look you wanna bet 20 bucks on that." I notice heads turn and a couple of employees come over to assist.. They too insist that is it also right part.. You wanna bet me.. I will bet you guys 20 bucks plus the part is free.. You guys don't have to get dirty I'll do the work right here.. OK lady your on.. So I slide under the truck, unscrew the bolts and release the tention spring coil so the old gasket falls out. When I come out from under my truck I have about 8 guys betting each other, if I'm wrong or right. So I hold up what is left of the old metal ring. Sure enough it was to small and I won.... Oh ya I need u-joints also, wanna bet on that too.. Sure enough they gave me the ones that go to the short bed trucks. As I walked out, I told them to always be carefully betting with a woman, she may get the best of you..
See sometimes we do know what we need, but trying to get it may take some effort..

It's funny you say that, becuase I always look for the new guys working.. Believe me the old ones want to watch and listen to what I need.. or hay what did you break this time.. My question is how much is going to cost me to fix-it..

You mean Found On Road Dead.. No, but I have worked on my moms ford f100 1974 300 6cylinder and did her flang gasket and driveline too. plus more. I'm thinking of pulling out the '69 Mercury and putting the new starter in it. She let it sit to long. Like when the gas was changed over in 1988 or 89. I blew the starter right out of it, trying to start it last year. In fact I took 2 out in one day. I have alot of work to do to it to get it running and on the road again.. I'm looking at 1500 dollars in parts alone to do it right.. That is if I do it all myself.. Every bushing in the car has to be replaced and all the break lines have to be changed over, The gas tank has to come off and be gone through. Shocks are shot. The list goes on.. But it is a Kool 2-door classic.. Metal flake blue paint, the inside is almost mint. I learned to drive in that car and take jumps on the back roads.. My first car was a old 1955 chevy 210 2-door.. What a mess..At 18 I was just getting my tools dirty... and learning about money, men, and used cars.. Throw a couple of blood sucking mechanics in, used car salesman, wrecking yards and you have a hek of life stories to tell..

Been there too... Had a 1983 Olds Toronado, with a female linkage instead of a male.. well 3 trannys were delived and none where right. I had to locate my own tranny for the shop. Found one in Corvallis, Oregon when I was here in California. Bought it and had it delivered to the shop. I lend up moving back up there from here. Exactly a year later the motor blew. So I called the wreckers and ask them if they had a motor.. I was in luck they did.. I told the guy that I bought the tranny from the same motor from them a year ago.. Of course he laughed at me over the phone.. Get your paper work out buddy, becuase I'm on my way to prove it.. Lady I'll take 100 bucks off if you can prove it. Besides, that tranny went to California.. I'll be there in an Hour, I have to find a truck to use.. So I get there and there were 6 guys just staring at me, plus about 3 stand bys customers with their hands crossed. I again asked about the bet and had plenty of witness's also. He plopped his paper work down and I said I don't even have to look.. That tranny was delived to a shop in """""cal. to """"""" shop and it was paid in cash by me """""" and here is all my receipts on the car.... Load it up in the truck, its outside boys... Here is your 200 bucks.. The look on that guys face was so funny.. The funny part was the boss was laughing his head off.. they were all in tears and boy did I hear the commits that day. The other hundred came out of his pay of course.. All the guys were betting against me, becuase they thought I was just a crazy female needing a tranny. I needed some other parts too and they just gave them to me.. See wrecking yards can be fun too.

PJC, She has some pics of her in SHT in one of her stories(she has plenty) She really is a fisher girl and not too shy. That's putting it mildly. Too bad we're about 1500 miles away from her.

I shot you an e-mail on that.
My dryer took a **** and I had to fix that. I got lucky and just yesterday there was a gas dryer, same manufacturer on freecycle. I picked it up today, swapped motors, stripped other possible high break parts and will put it out on the curb Sunday for large item pickup day. Now my dryer works great...for free!! :) :)
Also picked up a Lazy Boy recliner for $75...nice and comfy. If I can get my boys out of it!!

AK Chappy
