Yahama post on "non - repair discussion" forum Older 9.9 HP 2-Cycle Outboard

I put a post on the "non-repair discussions" forum with pictures of my recently purchased older Yamaha 9.9 HP. It has a couple of questions on the first reply (and only reply so far) by me where I add two additional pictures.

If you have interest in the 1990s 2 Cycle 9.9 HP engines you may want to take a look at:

it would help if you would post what all that info is instead of just saying that is all you have.
Model # will tell year if that is what you are looking for

The Yamaha ID plates show:
Model: 9.9 LD
Code: 682C L
Serial: 386490

I think I need to know the year to order a replacement impeller. I also wonder where the cooling water intake is, the second post I made show the lower unit and the usual water intakes on each side of the lower unit above the anti-cavitation plate isn't there unless it is the two 1/4" or smaller holes, see pictures.

11. Please do not post multiple threads in multiple forums about a single problem. This is confusing to those trying to help you. Multiple threads in the same forum about the same issue are also confusing. If you want help fast, one thread in the most closely related forum is the best way to get it.

The D says it is a 1990

Looks like the screen would be were it sucks up water while in the water.
If looking for where to hook up hose in driveway, It looks like you need to get an adapter to screw into that hole that says flush

JB, My apology, sorry and I will stop. My excuse/explanation is I have had a wonderful run of good advice from this group of forums including on an Evinrude 9.9. But, with the purchase of the subject Yamaha I was frustrated when I posted on the Yamaha/Suzuki forum and noted over one hundred reads without a response. I then moved to the Evinrude forum and tried to generalize my question, thus to the non-repair discussion"... guess it got away from me. Well I did get useful help from these forums, and made contact with a couple of people on the Yamaha form too. The bottom line is either I can't write in Yamaha'ese or one just doesn't get much response there. My typo ratio doesn't encourage responses either I suppose/understand.

99yam40, thanks, wow a 1990 that says even more: what a clean engine and the impeller has to have rotted by now. It does start easily and run well which says the carb isn't gummed up. I could go for an adapter for the wash out hole, bet one came with the engine all those decades ago - but long lost and never used from the looks of it. The boat/engine/trailer has a long history of which I know only the previous chapter. The engine came on a circa 1990+ Discovery Boat (Grumman breakaway which has since gone out of business) I purchased a few months back. That owner used a 25 HP on it and was keeping the engine. He put the Yamaha back on it, and engine he got with the boat he purchased second hand from a local dealer. This is all within 50 miles of my home and may be where I have to go for parts and service (I don't plan on purchasing services). We had a boat dealer within 7 miles of my house and I purchased my Evinrude from that dealer in 1995, he has since gone out of business. I think he had been in business for decades, then as the area grew in population he went out of business - doesn't make sense to me. We have a couple of lakes over 2,000 acres each (not large but big enough for a 9.9 hp) within 10 miles, still a boating business goes under while the boating population is growing, one of the mysteries of business...but I wander. At least most of this post is "new" and "discussion" only.

Thanks, I should be able to get an impeller, indeed from this site, now that I know the engine year. I'd think the long/short drive have the same lower unit/impeller. Given the D says 1990, the L may say Long.

Yes, I clicked on your link but got variable results. One time I got a set of additional likes to click on, the first one I clicked had a column for "D" and seemed to show 1990. It also showed the layout with field definitions for the identification plate. But, I didn't remember what I had so I went back to this thread and got the Model and Code from my post. Then going back to your link all I could get was three thumbnails, none of which reproduced the table with the column "D" and the ID Plate definition. So, no, I have not figured out the reference.
