Re: Yahama post on "non - repair discussion" forum Older 9.9 HP 2-Cycle Outboard
JB, My apology, sorry and I will stop. My excuse/explanation is I have had a wonderful run of good advice from this group of forums including on an Evinrude 9.9. But, with the purchase of the subject Yamaha I was frustrated when I posted on the Yamaha/Suzuki forum and noted over one hundred reads without a response. I then moved to the Evinrude forum and tried to generalize my question, thus to the non-repair discussion"... guess it got away from me. Well I did get useful help from these forums, and made contact with a couple of people on the Yamaha form too. The bottom line is either I can't write in Yamaha'ese or one just doesn't get much response there. My typo ratio doesn't encourage responses either I suppose/understand.
99yam40, thanks, wow a 1990 that says even more: what a clean engine and the impeller has to have rotted by now. It does start easily and run well which says the carb isn't gummed up. I could go for an adapter for the wash out hole, bet one came with the engine all those decades ago - but long lost and never used from the looks of it. The boat/engine/trailer has a long history of which I know only the previous chapter. The engine came on a circa 1990+ Discovery Boat (Grumman breakaway which has since gone out of business) I purchased a few months back. That owner used a 25 HP on it and was keeping the engine. He put the Yamaha back on it, and engine he got with the boat he purchased second hand from a local dealer. This is all within 50 miles of my home and may be where I have to go for parts and service (I don't plan on purchasing services). We had a boat dealer within 7 miles of my house and I purchased my Evinrude from that dealer in 1995, he has since gone out of business. I think he had been in business for decades, then as the area grew in population he went out of business - doesn't make sense to me. We have a couple of lakes over 2,000 acres each (not large but big enough for a 9.9 hp) within 10 miles, still a boating business goes under while the boating population is growing, one of the mysteries of business...but I wander. At least most of this post is "new" and "discussion" only.
Thanks, I should be able to get an impeller, indeed from this site, now that I know the engine year. I'd think the long/short drive have the same lower unit/impeller. Given the D says 1990, the L may say Long.
