Yam 225 intermittent stalling

I have a 1993 Yamaha 225 that has been swinging between running fine and stalling on acceleration (usually mid-throttle), surging from 2500 to 3500 rpm, and/or losing rpms at high throttle. Changed the fuel filter and repaired a leaky hose and it ran great for a day. Then changed plugs and cleaned out the carb and problems still occured, sporadically. I asked mechanics to change fuel pumps too but they weren't the problem. If fuel is somehow restricted, how can it well for periods of time? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like a collapsing fuel line between the tank and feeder to the main filter. As the boat and motor get warm, the fuel gets restricted. If the engine runs OK at low speed, try putting a line from the tank to the engine, bypassing the original line, but no need to run a new one yet. If this corrects under power, you have a bad line from the tank to the engine.

Thanks, sounds like something to look into. It happened again today. Things always go downhill to a point where the engine won't get above 1100rpm. Another observation is that the engine appears to be burning an unusual amount of gas while having these problems. About a quarter of<br />a 90 gal tank was just used with about 4h of running time. Is this consistent with a constricted fuel line?
