yamaha 100 hp/saltwater/freshwater use

i am looking to buy a yamaha 100hp outboard for freshwater use...i found one that is used in saltwater..will i have any problems using this motor?also does the salt destroy an outboard?thanks

You'd be better off to find a "freshwater" motor, but depending on the age, condition, maintenance record and the price, of the "saltwater" motor, it could be a good deal.

this motor is a 1999..it looks good in pictures..just dont know what saltwater does to inside of motor...guy wants 3200.00...thinks the price is good..not sure though.

I can't imagine a 1999 100HP saltwater motor for $3200, seems like a lot to me, unless it's been used very little and like new!

Also, a problem with saltwater motors is when they need to be disassembled for repair or maintenance sometimes the bolts and screws are stuck with salt corrosion and they break off!...not good, and just something to think about!

Do you know if the engine was flushed after each use?
