Might be a stupid answer, but have you tried charging the battery? Some of the new batteries don't come fully charged. Just a thought.
Scott

Howdy, CCAC.

Welcome to iboats. :)

You most likely have a poor connection in the high-current circuit for the starter motor.

Go to Engine FAQs and do the starter circuit troubleshooting in "Outboard wont start".

Check both ends of both battery cables. They must be clean and tight. If you have wing nuts on the batter terminals, remove them, throw them over the side (oops -- in the trash) and replace them with stainless nuts that you can actually tighten. If the battery is charged, cables are good, and connections clean and tight, you may have a bad starter solenoid.

DO NOT tap the starter housing, the permant magnets will most likly break and I am not sure you can buy the field assy as a service part.
