Yamaha 15 2 stroke power loss

We have a 1996 Yamaha 15 2 stroke for our dinghy. It starts easily, runs fine at idle and low speed but dies when we increase the throttle. We've changed the spark plugs, cleaned out the fuel filter, and changed the fuel. The next step is to remove the carb. but we are reluctant to do that ourselves. We are currently in Mazatlan, Mexico with no Yamaha dealer.
Any ideas?

Re: Yamaha 15 2 stroke power loss

does pumping the primer ball help the situation? pump the ball when increasing the throttle.

when was the last time the motor was running great? has it been sitting a while?

Sounds like it could be a clogged/gummed up high speed jet in the carb or a faulty fuel pump.

Thanks for the info. It has been sitting for 4 years, the last time it ran great was 4 years ago. We tried pumping the primer ball when increasing the throttle, no difference. Guess we'll need to get into the carb.
