I've got a 1991 yamaha. Been great, but today was running and it just shut down. I was at full speed, and it just slowed down. Good water pressure, no alarms.

It will run 1200 rpm, and then when I give it more power it revs high, but no power. Could this be the sheer pin? Is it a lower unit issue?

Any idea what kind of expense I'm looking at?

Also, whats the bes shop manual to buy for one of these.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Yamaha 150 high rpm no power at prop

Was running strong, and then nothing. The engine runs great, but no power at the prop.

It reminds me of a clutch going out on a car, high rpms, but no power.

Will run fine at 12 to 1500 rpms, but that's it.

Could this be a sheer pin issue or something worse?

No alarms, good water pressure, everything seems normal.

Thanks for any help,

Daniel

The shearpin went the way of the dinosaur for larger engines. You have a rubber hub in your proip which has probably sheared, or spun.

Sounds like a spun prop to me also.

you spun the bush on your prop .... take your prop off, take it to a prop shop and they will press in a new bush, it is cheap and easy .... your motor is fine ... these things happen ...

thanks for the reply guys, saved me some worry.

Another question: What is the best shop manual producer for my engine? Besides Yamaha of course.

Thanks,
Daniel
