I am new here and any help would be greatful
I have a yamaha 150TXRZ manufactured in 12/2000. The tach on the motor is a faria non digital model. It recently quit working. how should i go about troubleshooting the problem? please write it in terms of a 3rd grader lol

also the spedometer hasnt worked for sometime. how should i go about trouble shooting this problem

You may want to post a thread in the Electronics forum as well.

To start, I would make sure both instruments are receiving power. You can check this with a multimeter and wiring for your instruments here:

Regarding your speedo, sometimes the pitot tube on the yamaha lower unit gets plugged up. If you look on the leading edge of the outboard lower unit, there is a tiny hole where water gets rammed into. this hole can get clogged pretty easily. I clean mine out with a tiny drill bit with vise grips to pull out the grime.

thanks for the response
here is what i found so far
i have a good 12v supply to the tach
with the motor idling i have about a 5.6 volt signal at the tach
as i increase the idle the voltage increases as the motor revs
tere is a gray wire coming out of the tach splicing into a harness where the wire turns green. ii am assuming this goes back to the motor instead of pulling signal from the ignition
