I just had a newly rebuilt Yamaha excel 175hp installed on my chris craft. I bought the motor from a friend who is a boat broker and had a local mechanic install it. Since the mechanic didnt rebuild the motor he wont warranty the rebuild so i am trying to see if i can figure out the problem before dropping off the boat again and paying another hefty repair bill.
The engine idles fine and revs up to 4k no problem in neutral but whenever we put a full load on it it runs fine for 5-10 mins then the warning horn (constant) goes off and the engine dies out. The motor wont start for 5-10 mins then we can repeat the processes.
Originally i thought it was a fuel starvation issue, since the primer ball was collapsing whenever this happend. So i replaced all the fuel lines, filters, and vents. The tank is clean and there doesnt appear to be anything in the tank that could clog the pickup tube or filters, there is no antisiphon valve. Now the Primer call doesnt collapse but the engine still dies out in the same manner as before. I think i might have had multiple issues.
The motor is not hot to the touch and is peeing fine.
Ideas?
