Hi there I am trying to get a motor back into life after years of storage. This is a Yamaha 28 electric start from 1979 I believe. Everything is now working great apart from the shift mechanism. If I disconnect the shift from the main lever to the arm that goes forward to another arm that then disappears down into the cowling it works fine but when connected is extremely stiff and hard to engage gears. The gearbox and all the other linkage is free and works fine.
I have an old service manual but the relevant diagram of parts does not seem to show this link arm that travels forward. Please can anyone help, thanks,
