Hello folks. I'm looking for advice on what the resale value of my outboard might be. I have a Yamaha 4-Stroke 4hp short shaft outboard bought new from Auburn Marine in Seattle and shipped up to Alaska in August of 2013. I believe I have about $1300 in it. It is in near new conditions with right at about 10 hours on it. (I'm ready to do the first oil drain and refill after the break-in period according to the manual-and I followed the break-in procedure pretty closely.) I am planning to sell this outboard this spring, most likely to my father-in-law. What is a rough estimate of a fair market price for this engine i this condition? I haven't seen any for sale in the local outlets (Craigslist, Facebook, etc) to have much a reference. I don't wish to get maximum value for it (It's a "family deal.") but I also don't wish to give it away as the proceeds will go into a 9-10 hp 4 stroke replacement outboard, and, in the off chance my in-law decided not to buy it, I'd like to know a good starting point to negotiate from when dealing with a stranger. Any thoughts or insight are appreciated. Thanks.
