Yamaha 50 runs, but won't idle

Newbie Question. Why would my 1989 Pro50 Yamaha run but not idle? Background: Had carbs cleaned recently at a Yamaha Service Center (don't really know how they were cleaned). Boat initially ran good. A few days later I needed to replace the neutral switch (broken) and buzzer (non-functional) in the 703 remote control.

The engine cranks fine and initially goes to about 1500 RPM for about 12-15 seconds(it always has) and then normally settles down to about 800-850 or so for idle. Now it just dies after this 15 second period. However, if you advance the throttle before the 15 seconds is up, you can ride all day, until you slow down and put it back in neutral, then it dies.

Could I have done something in the remote control to cause this or is it just coincidence? Where should I start looking? Thanks,

justintime, when you are actually working in a shop you may have a different opinion. You can clean and adjust carbs properly as the fact that it ran properly when it left the shop indicates was done. You can not keep the fuel going to those carbs clean. That is the responsibility of the owner.

That is not true in our area. With a limited season, shops can only afford to keep the best most trained tecs. Also since we don't have salt water many of the engines are 30 years old and they need to be able to service them as well as the modern motors.
