i'm buying a 60 2 stroke(2003) from a friend and it's on a c. skiff with a 19 pitch prop now. i'm putting it on a lighter aluminum boat the same length as the skiff(16'). that engine has a 2.33-1 gear ratio. would there be any advantage to raising the engine on the transom or getting a jackplate? also would it be to my advantage to go with a stainless steel 21 pitch prop to gain more top end. this may not be the right forum for this question but i was hoping someone who was familiar with the yamaha could give their opinion.

Re: yamaha 60

while there are various slide rules ande formulas it all comes down to the hull and its load, full throttle RPM with a normal load is 4500-5500 RPM and Yamaha and most techs wish to see it propped for 5400-5700 at WOT.
some Aluminium hulls need a slightly higher mounting. start with the ventalation plate level with the bottom and run it.
if excessive spray up the transom is noted raise the engine a hole or two. be aware the higher its mounted the greater the chance of ventalation in turns.
also be aware that most SS wheels are cupped and cupping is like adding an inch of pitch over a non cupped AL wheel.
so we can reccomend all day long but at the end of the day mounting height and prop selection comes down to the engine installer.
