I have just purchase a used 70hp Yamaha and put it on the back of my boat. I am conserned with the prop. The boat, at WOT, is at 5500rpm. Is the prop limiting this(that would be perfect from what I've searched) or is this a rev limiter and I need to rethink my prop?

I have a 90 hp Yamaha and a 250 hp Yamaha - both have a range of 4500 to 5500 rpm for wot. the only motors i've heard of with a higher limit (6000 or so) are 4 strokes
the owner;s manual should indicate the range for your motor.
good luck and keep posting

Not sure there is a revlimiter on that model. If so it would be at 6050.

On most 2-strokes , power falls off pretty rapidly above the power peak, acting like a sort of rev limiter. And according to my sources , the yamaha 70 peaks at 5500rpm.
