Howdy-

Just picked up a 88 skeeter with a 1987 70hp Yamaha ETLH.
I got it from a buddy, and I know in the time he has had it (about 3 years) he hasn't changed the impeller. So I picked up the Seloc book and I have a question.
1. the book says "Loosen but do not remove the shift rod lock nut. Seperate the lower and upper shift rod by rotating the shift rod connecting rod joint nut upward."

The only picture shown of the shift rod has a couple of wrenches turning a perfectly round shift rod? I don't see a lock nut on my shift rod? What am I missing? I have replaced impellers on my Johnson's before but this one has me throw for a loop.
Any tips will be appreciated :).

Thanks

Eric

1 for the trim tab, 1 under the trim tab, and 4 around the lower unit.

have someone operate the linkage, if it rotates to sift it does not use the lock nut arragement. if its push pull keep hunting for it
.best I remember they quit with the push pull about the 40 HP range. make sure your in the correct section of the outhouse manual.

Ok so you are correct it rotates. I assume that any linkage I need to disconnect would be between the housing and lower unit when it starts to come apart?. The book is kind of leaving me in the dark here.

Thanks Again.

if it rotates its splined, no dissconnect. leave the shifter in N and remove the attaching bolts, dont forget the one underneath the trim tab and slip the unit off.
use the seloc for the outhouse and buy the correct manual from yamaha and life gets easier :).

Kilo, thats why its called maint not repairs, maint is almost always cheaper than repairs.
if you price the pump then the cost of a piston or two AND a pump you will note the cost of the pump remained the same.
2 strokes dont tolerate degraded cooling or lubrication systems well at all.
they tend to scuff pistons.
