During the hurricane my boat almost went under, and my engine was partly submerged. It wont start unless i pour a little gas into the cylinders from the spark plug holes. That is the only way fuel gets to it. I have turned the motor over with the plugs out and get no smell of gas. Can anyone help me?

thank you

hello
remove the carb drain plugs and check for water.
if water has been in the fuel bowls this long you may have to overhaul them. the drains are on the stbd side on the fwd edge of the carbs. a little brass 10mm hex.

ok. so i cleaned the carbs out. they had gummed up. I had to clean it all out. It still wont start, unless i spray starter fluid in the carbs and it then starts right up. So what do yall think

I think ya need to check the choke/primer assy for proper operation and double check the carbs. sometimes a dissasembly is the only way to clean them. dont use ether,it has no lubricating properties and can lead to piston damage.

It is much safer and will work just as well to clean out an empty spray bottle, put gas in it and squirt directly into the carbs while holding them open to prime the motor than using starting fluid or ether.
