Hello everyone i am kind of new to boating and have had a problem lately. I own a 1995 115 2 stoke 4 cylinder yamaha. what my problem is is that the motor runs fine until i go over 4900 rpms and start to trim up to pick up speed. Motor runs fine until i go over 4900rpm and then within 10-20 seconds of pushing it past 4900 an alarm goes of and the motor slows down and will not pick up again. I have to turn it on and off a number of times to get alarm off and then it will run fine again until you try to take it above 4900 rpm. Am i messing up motor running to high dont think i am redlining do i not need to worry bout it and just keep it under 4500rpm or is there something i can do to fix this Thank You for your time.

Re: Yamaha alarm

I am about to replace the water pump but what is the t-stats and what is a poppet and how do i clean it. as you can tell i am not the best with motors. Is this something I can do or do i need a professional (as money is kind of tight right now). Again thank you for your time and response
