This may be a unnecessary post, but I want to be proactive.
Last week I had an alarm issue, and the gauges showed low oil. Thought it was false, but found the main tank (oil) was down to 1/4 tank. So, I filled it up.
Took out another day, everything seemed good. Rough rough water.
After fishing, tried to start, got short alarm, then nothing, no trim either. Checked for fuses, etc, then dumb luck started and ran.
Checked wiring harness, seemed like it might be a ignition key issue, but according to the forums, powerloss due to bad wire (possibly).
So, I doublechecked the battery, tightened the wingnuts, seemed tight, but now it seems fine. It might just be that, but if it happens again: How do I do an continuity test on my wires. I know how to use a voltmeter, but I understand there could be powerloss from the battery to the ignition? It might be fully fixed, but I want to have a plan of attack so I don't get stranded.
By the way, former Johnson boat owner, not near as complicated older motor, and I'm new to this 91 Yamaha. Runs great when it runs.
Thanks, these posts/forums have been a Godsend, appreciate the great advice. I'm learning a great deal from ya'll.
