An F40 is a 40 horsepower, 3 cyl 4-stroke. An F60 is a 60 horsepower, 4 cyl 4-stroke.

20 HP and possibly who and where it was manufactured. possibly EFI or carbed depending on year of manufacture.
as it may be an international market motor and not a US market motor I cant say much more than that without a picture,or several.
model numbers and seriel numbers can help us help you.

I bought a motor F40DETL 996 CCM 4Stroke. 4 cylynder injector, a friend of mine bought a F60 DET 996CCM, tried to take off his motor Controll injection, and put on his own, nothing happened, as the boat sailed 60 km.ch and floats, too, another change came. Directory service for Yamaha reviewed all the details on both the engine and found the difference to catalog number, only Controll
