Hey guys, I got stuck on a sandbar yesterday and clogged my cooling line with gunk. All the research I've done says I need to pull the lower unit off and clean it out. I have a couple of questions about doing that, as this is my first time.

  1. Can I do this while the boat is in the water?
  2. If not, is it okay to run the boat to a boat ramp so I can trailer it during the maintenance (about a quarter mile of water from me to the ramp)?
  3. How do i get the lower unit off and what do I need to look for to clean out?

I've discovered that this must be a clog and not an impeller problem because when hooking a hose up to the garden hose attachment for flushing, no exhaust water is being expelled, which is the same problem I have when the engine is running.

Thanks for the any help/guidance you can give!!

use compressed air or a can of spray carb claener, with safty goggles, and back flush the tell tale line with the engine running.
can be done in the water.
