Having trouble finding info on my 8hp. I believe it's pre-84, and bought in Canada. (my dad bought it new.)

Numbers on plate mounted to bracket are:
8CM
6G1 S 001629

There is also a label saying
PASSED
Inspected by Japanese Govt. #4850

Specifically, I'm looking for a part # for the piece the leg pivots on, to which is attached the bracket the plate is mounted on. Thanks in advance!

Re: Yamaha ID help

Hi,

At least I can tell you it is 1982- or newer.

http://www.marinshopen.se
Modellguide in upper right corner, then Yamaha.
In table look in "Kod" column for 6G1 and You will find it is a 8 hp and model is 8C (or 8CM in your case) and 1982 or newer.

If it is like in Europe there is a Year letter that determines the exact year.
There is a link "(Se bild)" in beginning of the Yamaha page and there you can see where the letter is suppose to be if year letter is used in your country. If not, then I do not know how to ID a Yamaha outboard.

I do not know if a manual on 8C/8ECM 1985 will help but here it is anyway in PDF:

http://www.yamahaownershandbook.com.au/lib/download.php?f=6G1-28199-24.pdf

There is also Parts list on Yamaha outboard US website back to 1984:
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/service/servicehome/home.aspx
(View Parts Catalog)

Re: Yamaha ID help

bossee- Thank you very much! The handbook looks to be the right one for my engine. I'm sure it will be very usefull! According to the Yamaha US site, the part I need is the 'bracket, swivel'. Part# 6G1-43311-13-EK. I hope it is the correct part. the first 3 characters are same as my serial# (6G1) so it should be.

Thank you again! i was pulling my hair out trying to find anything!8)
