Broke off part of skeg on 1997 Yamaha 150 Pro-V. Found prop shop that will weld on new skeg. They want me to bring in lower unit. What is required to remove the lower unit besides removing the four bolts? What gear should the motor be in to remove? Anything to watch out for in removal or during re-install? Would you recommend replacing the water pump while it is off?

hello and welcome<br /> there are 8 bolts . 6 on the sides and the trim tab and one under the tab. dont forget to dissconnect the speedo tube just above the fwd edge of the lower unit at the midsection. leave it in netural and if the pump is over 2 years old its due. search about on this forum and you will find a post by me giving step by step bolt by bolt instructions for a 115 which is the same procedure as your 150.

i just did my 115 8 bolts, but i found it easyer leaving it in drive , because when you go to reinstall it you just turn the prop to get eligned up with the motor.I also had a vent tube that has to go through the front hole.
