I have a question about differences between models of yamaha outboards. I currently have a 1998 yamaha V200TLRW. I have a friend that just purchased a boat with a 1998 yamaha P200TLRW on it. Both of our engines have cowlings with "V MAX" on them and I was wondering what the difference is between the two engines. Are they both considered to be V MAX engines? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Re: yamaha model number ???

about the only thing the two engines share is yamaha silver mettalic paint.
the P200 in 1998 was a carbed 2.6L motor.
the V200 was a fuel injected 3.1L motor.
the P stands for ProV and the V would indicate a Vmax motor.
your friends may have had a cowl swap.
its also why I always desire a full model number before entering a disscusion of any testing or parts ordering.
