I have a 1995 115hp. I have removed the main tilt pin holding the tilt piston to the powerhead, the six 14mm bolts and the two 17mm short bolts and disconnected the electricla wires. The trim unit wiggles but won't come out...part of the problem may be that I am trying to remove this unit while the boat is in the water!

any help, drawings, suggestions?

I'm removing it because it appears that all of the fluid has leaked out.

Re: Yamaha tilt-trim removal

hello
well you must loosen the 1 1/4 nut on the stbd side of the steerting tube. remove the nut for the cable streering or the arm if hydraulic. support the engine with a wedge between the cener of the bracket and the top edge of the transom. remove the two through bolts from the stbd engine mounting bracket. move the bracket as far to stbd as possible without knocking it loose from the steering tube. there is not enough clearence on that unit to remove it from between the brackets without spreading the brackets apart. if your still in the water it will leak when you remove the lower stbd engine mounting bolt. be ready with a cork. better yet to prevent water intrusion of the transom wood and to aid in resaeling it remove the boat from the water.
Good Luck and keep posting
