On my 1988 70 hp the trim works great up, down its good until it gets to the trim cyls then it stalls the motor like its bound up. I open the bleed screw and it goes down all the way. What is happening? THANKS PETE:(

Re: yamaha tilt trim

Do you mean the tilt, the large piston in the middle, is working up and down ok, but when going down and it hits the 2 smaller trim pistons it stops? At first thought I would be thinking low on fluid or air in the system. Have you checked these?

Re: yamaha tilt trim

if it wont go down all the way there is a release valve ( large slotted screw ) on one side of the motor mount. move the screw gently no need for force it will damage the valve.

if it won't go down the cylinders may be stuck from corrosion or a valve may be stuck.

cycle the motor up and down by whichever means works. close the valve before raising. a few cycles may clear up your problem
