Yamaha Trim Gauge Hook-up

I have a 4-stroke 40hp Yamaha (2001 model). It is a F40TRZ. I bought a trim gauge (6Y5-83670-11-00) w/wire harness that is supposed to work for it, but I can't figure out the the wiring. It has a square harness that should fit to the engine, but there are several wires coming off the trim gauge in addition to the square fitting. I think the blue is for a light, the black for ground? but where do I need to hook up the others - a black w/purple and yellow w/purple? Any help is appreciated.

wow
welcome to iboats.
I have not seen those wire colors. ill call yamaha and have the tech writers flogged and keel hauled.
if I get a chance ill look at the rigging guide tomorrow. keep bumping this thread cause I am slow sometimes.
your wire colors should be pink not purple.
have another set of eyes look at the colors. remeber the main color is written first and the stripe is written second.

Re: Yamaha Trim Gauge Hook-up

Thanks Rodbolt. I think I pieced together some of the answer from previous posts. I may have a 3-wire gauge (its a 6Y5-83670-11-00) and should have bought a 2-wire. But even though my harness is 4-wire (black, gray, pink and orange part # 6R3-82553-70-00) can I still use it for a 2-wire Yamaha trim gauge? I wish I'd researched it better - I may be stuck with a useless harness and trim gauge.

the harness may be ok, but you CANNOT use a 3 wire gauge with a two wire sender. sorry.
but the good news is an aftermarket guage is avalible for the two wire set up I think. you may also look into a yamaha digital tach just make sure its has a selectable setting of 4 stroke and 2 wire trim send.
try to consult the rigging guide.

Bogle57
I used a Teleflex on my 2002 F40, made in Aug 2001. I picked it up at BassPro.. It required 2 wires from the sending unit (pink and black), 1 wire from the other insturment lites, a ground, and 12 volts from the switch source.
Gerald K4NHN
