Yammy 2s 115 - Temporary loss of power

Took the rig (saltwater 2001 carby model) on a run this morning travelling at 4200 rpm but about 3nm from ramp the power dropped to around 1500 rpm - no warning bells, nothing, just no power (deep, unusual sound of motor but not running rough). Turned boat around to limp back to port and after about 1 minute at trolling speed the motor came back to life as per normal. Ran it around for another hour at different speeds with no problems. Ruined my day of fishing as wasn't game to take it 25nm offshore for obvious reasons. I have no faith in local mechanics to find the cause.

Any clues from iboats experts?

Test to be sure alarm circuits are working correctly and then look for a fuel restriction. intermittent problems can be tough.

I agree, look at a fuel restriction. the deep sound you mention is the engine running lean and the carbs being fully open. More air than fuel.

I had a fuel pump problem recently that was intermittant. If it happens again check the bulb for deflation (This would be a restriction). If it is deflated prime it again and try the engine again. If the bulb is not deflated try priming the bulb while driving it (someone else drives) if performance comes back, then it most likely is a fuel pump.
