Year of Johnson outboard?

Hi,<br /><br />I just picked up a nice jon boat and would like to know the year of the motor. It is a Johnson 40hp tiller serial# G7018799.<br /><br />Any help would be appreciated.<br />Thanks,<br />Tomo

Hi Tomo<br />Omc motors 1980 up use the word introduces as a code. the I=1 and the S=0. So your motor would be a 1985 model. The c=8 and the o=5. The J= Johnson, 40=hp,TEL= tiller electric.

I also cant figure out the year of my motor. It is reg. as a 1980 but the letters dont gel with the no. they give in the Cylmer book. The model# is e35elcig Help please.

If there is a letter at the end of the model number sequence, that means there was some type of factory engineering sometime during the production run. Usually it does not mean anything to a customer, but sometimes the letter is needed to order parts. For example, some engines had different carburetors and/or jets during the same year, and that letter signified which ones to order.

HELP don.t know where to ask question. I have a 18 hp seahorse mod# FD-18E S/N 2405853 What year is it and can a electric starter be installed on it and where can I buy a starter CPalace
