I have a 20 hp Evinrude that I just purchased used. I am ?? about the year. The model # is E20CRERC. Could anyone help? Also Does running a motor that needs a bottom end prop seal do any major damage?

To narrow down the year, try typing part numbers into google. Some parts were manufactured only for certain years.

example of google seach for a pulse pack on my 1970 evinrude 115 hp engine:

Evinrude 398362

Maybe I'm missing something, but that model number would suggest to me that the motor is a 1994 Evinrude, counter rotation, rope start. If it was Canadian it would start with a "C".

Thanks to all for the great info. It appears that the motor is a 1994. It is a canadian model.

This was my first question and I am convinced that this is a very helpful site.

Cheers

To wbeaton: further down the design feature chart on the Marine Engine site you find the letters 'CR' for "Canada Deregulated - Rope Start". That is followed by the model year ER or 1994.
