hi everyone , i just got a pioneer radio for the boat , it has a yellow wire that goes to the battery for the memory . where we keep our boat we do not have shore power there and i am not sure if this might drain the batteries on the boat , the boat has two batteries but it does not a battery switch . do i have to hook this wire up ? thanks ...

Yes you do, but but put the yellow and red wire on a switch so you can kill the power on both, or the memory will drain the batteries down.

No way will the radio memory drain a good battery. I've had plenty of vehicles sit around for months without the batteries going dead.

Ding has it right. It all depends on the battery's ability to hold a charge and the amount of use the boat gets. If it sits for 6 months without being used, it's possible that the battery might be low. Even if it was used once a month, he should never have a problem. All of my boats have had a memory wire connected and I have yet to ever have a dead battery.

What Chris and Ding said. You could leave that thing connected for over a year and I doubt that you would have an issue due to the stereo memory drain..

Here's another thought to ponder, you may have to run a switch anyhow....do you have a low oil pressure alarm? as soon as my key is 'on' the alarm howls. My radio is hardwired and must be turned off separately.
