yoke o-rings: must replace when replacing impeller?

I've got everything I need to finish the job (today, which would be nice)....but,
manual says replace 2 O-rings on the yoke (but not 3?) when installing the drive.

They seem to be in good shape, as are the bellows. Everything was clean inside housing... just grease.

Ok to lube and install, or are these things "must replace every time you pull the drive"?



after all this work, lazy or stupid is not the way to finish

It would depend (to me) on the condition.... (dry/brittle/cracked).

I have removed, cleaned, inspected and reused mine (two on my yoke shaft). This is if I have had to remove my drive for other reasons without an impeller replace.

Very light coating of grease or oil on reassembly or it will hydrolock in the gimball bearing during insertion.

Surprised....most kits now come with these O-rings.

All the drive to bellhousing install gasket kits came with them.

I have the rings that came with the gasket kits... Mallory Marine Part # 9-62601

The two look thinner than what I have on there and I was concerned.. tried to cross reference the part numbers to be sure..

2@ 25-29845 ----O-RING, (.924 x .103)
1@ 25-35027 ----O-RING, (1.046)


If y'all say these are correct, (and the gasket, seal and water ring are all correct)... then I'm a happy camper.

Did your Mallory Marine Part # 9-62601 kit only come with 3 small O'Rings and 1 big one? The OEM kit from Merc comes with 4 small and 1 big ring. Google image search Merc part number 27-94996Q2.

Did you get a ring for the water intake item number 4,

The rings right next to each other would be the more important ones to worry about then the bigger ring closest to splines.

I think I'll leave my "Show your signature" checked for this post.

The ones in the kit were correct. The two replacement rings looked too small, but once I pulled them off, they were the same.
