Well Steve & Carol at least our Service men had something to eat. Cajuns (Coonasses)have a way of Sticking it out, and surviving to Fight.

I've been around the world twice, seen Louisiana in my rear view mirror many times. The reason for my Smile was knowing I would return.

I personally admire Cajuns, especially cajun men. Their love of cooking and downhome entertainment/fun is unmatched. Their hospitality is the best.

Living only 2 hours from Louisiana, I have learned how to do many wonderful things from the most wonderful people. :)

Boudoin blanc, sure, but I never would eat boudoin rouge. I'm not sure you can still buy fresh pork blood, anyway.

Another thing I wouldn't eat is head cheese, but I see now they sell it in the Kroger's deli.

:D Well thank you Ladyfish, we try. ;)
You know I spent 3 months in Kilgore, Tx. A Year and a half in Lake Jackson, Tx. 1 yr in Richardson, Tx.

Going all the way to Saudi Arabia and back, I believe it makes you appreciate Southern Hospitality all the more. It truly opens your eyes to the freedoms we have, and take for granted in this country. For the most part Cajuns are Fun loving oriented people who love to laugh, even if it is at themselves. We feel you have to get things done, but there is no law against having a little fun while your doing it. ;)

24. You don't learn until high school that Mardi Gras is not a national holiday.
25. You don't realize until high school what a "county" is.
26. You believe that purple, green and gold look good together (and you will even eat things those colors).

This is, quite literally, the truth.

Re: You might be from Louisiana IF...

I did schedule my wedding around LSU football. Got married in October of 2003 at the Catholic Student Center on LSU's campus. Afternoon wedding so that everyone could go back to the hotel and watch the LSU/Ole Miss game (away game) on TV. Guilty of almost everything on the list. Growing up we refered to anyone north of the Intracostal Canal as a Texan.

3. You learned to drive a boat before you could drive a car.

br 31. You have spent a summer afternoon on the Lake Pontchartrain seawall catching blue crabs.

32. You describe a color as "K&B Purple."

Ladyfish, ya makin me go way back now! Havin been born and raised in the great south(Metairie), these definitely fit me! Don't forget about - "If you have ever spent a day shrimpin on the lake and enjoying boiled shrimp and crabs that evening!" or "Enjoyed drinkin Dixie beer with your shrimp po-boy!" or "You still have a paper bag that has cutouts for your eyes(remebering those long ago Saints games)!"

Re: You might be from Louisiana IF...

Hey guys! Have loved reading this thread. I was born in Mississippi and lived there for the first 28 years of my life. Two years ago I moved to Louisiana and love it here as well. Just the short 90 miles from where I was raised in Mississippi to where I currently live in LA there are differences in the cusine. The food is cooked MUCH richer here. A refrigerator is not considered well stocked unless it has REAL butter (never margerine) and HEAVY cream. Over here, its not chicken and dumplings, its chicken pie and the dumplings are floating in butter and cream. AND, Most all of my life I have been able to make a mean gumbo. Since moving to LA I have learned to make a pretty mean jambalaya as well. We might not have the richest bank accounts but are tables are all very rich!

Re: You might be from Louisiana IF...

Just an observation - I really don't hear the pronounciation "NewAwlins" or Nawlins" much. Actually what I do hear most of the time is the name spoken pretty much as it is written .... "New Or-Lee-Anns."

I think the "Nawlins" version is spoken buy some who are native to the area, but I find it more in bad movies and TV series about the city. And, just to cover all of the bases, the "New Or-Leens" version is merely a pronounciation learned from countless songs that use the name in that manner. What folks never seem to take a moment to realize, however, is that this is a pronounciation that is used in lyrics, simply because it rhymes with many words.
