I was going through some old pics the other day and found one when I rolled my 99 Jimmy. It only had 3800 miles on it when this happened. Good thing the GMCs have that roll bar.

Was wondering if you have had one that was bad?

Re: Your Worst Wreck

Yes but i did it on a new mountain bike with a defect in the front brake.

It became a parking brake at about 28 mph and i did the Christopher Reeve directly into the ground.

But i arched up at the last second and my left shoulder took the full inpact, it made a funny noise as it became bone dust

When i got up and tryed to get home i could not figure out what was so lose on the front of the bike IT turned out to be my arm ;)

So now that i have had adult reconstructive surgery and a left arm with permanent hardware i can say that bicycles are much more dangerous than motorcycles :D

The recovery only took about 5 years and it will really never stop hurting

tommays

Re: Your Worst Wreck

I've had 2 sorta bad wrecks. When Rod and I were dating I wrecked his brand new pickup. He hadn't even made the first payment on it. I rolled it many, many times. Sometime during the roll, I put the truck in park and turned off the ignition. I watched too many movies where the rolled vehicle exploded or caught on fire I guess. They found me in the snow bank down the road a ways.

The 2nd one...when we were dating, we took our motorcycles for a day trip and I got caught in some nasty crosswinds that threw me off on to the shoulder of the road. I was inches away from the W-beam and the bike was out of control in the salt/sand so I decided I was not going to lose a leg to that W-Beam and pushed the bike out from underneath me. I was doing about 65 at the time.

We were riding side by side and when Rod looked back he saw me in mid air and a tractor trailer not far behind me. All turned out well. I sprained my ankle and tore the muscles away from my pelvis but the was all. After it was over, Rod couldn't get his harley started so I pushed him up a damn hill so he could pop the clutch. Not realizing how hurt I was.

As it ended up, we had to leave his bike at a farm house and we bent a few things back on mine and drove it home whioch was a few hours away. When we got home, I couldn't get my boot off and sometime during the middle of the night I went to roll over and only the top half of my body moved. All the muscle tissue in my back was laying on the nerves. Scared me half to death. Funny thing about this accident is, I remember when I was in mid air which seemed like an eternity, the song "Dust in the Wind" was playing in my head and flashes of my life were before me.

When I was 15, I raced my girlfirend with my boyfriend's Ford Torino GT convertible. She had a Cobra. At 130 mph the drive shaft broke and fell on the brake line. When it broke the rear end came straight up in the air and it was fixin to roll end over end. Thank God it didn't. It certainly made my heart skip a beat or two.

Oh yeah, I did beat her. She couldn't speed shift worth a damn. LOL

I can tell you however, I've only had one speeding ticket in my entire life and that was on our honeymoon on the way to the hotel. I was going 90.

I never sustained any permenant injuries from my accidents, I was very fortunate. Fracturing C-5 and C-6 in my neck was done on a treadmill and thats a whole nuther story.

Re: Your Worst Wreck

I hear ya about the tailshaft LF. My Ford Falcon did the same thing. Front uni-joint broke. I was doing about 190 Kph. I got lucky and the shaft hit the road at an angle, not straight down, so it still jumped the car a bit, but basicly spit out the side. Didn't do too much damage, needed a new driveshaft, fuel line, brake line, quadrant box for the gear box(4-speed single rail, the box got smashed as things went haywire underneath me). After that, all my rearwheel drive cars got tailshaft loops fitted.

Re: Your Worst Wreck

Never had a bad one on the road. Closest I came was laying my Honda down at about 80 on a wet road. Skidded on my butt for about 100 yds. Minor scrapes on my leathers and a bruise on my hip.

On the track I did one of those "stand it on its nose and twirl it" followed by a bazillion rolls and ending upside down in the pit lane.

Broke the crystal in my Timex. :(

Re: Your Worst Wreck

A ditch ran out in front of me in my Cherokee in '03. I ended up bouncing in and out of 3 ditches and through a large pile of boulders somebody was thoughtfull enough to pile there because people crash all the time.

I stopped about 6" from a large tree...had I gone off the road a second later I would have hit it and things would have been MUCH worse.

I wish I would have taken pics of the inside. Both floorboards were pushed up even with the seats when the wheels broke off and smashed into it. My knee still hurts...

Re: Your Worst Wreck

1998, while working on some new kneeboard tricks, I tried to "part the waters"....... with my head...... concussion city, and my back and neck made noises like rice krispies... SNAP CRACKLE POP... climbed back in the boat and said "I quit", just before I zonked out the first time... Have'nt done any watersports since.. My board, line & handle, and barefoot suit are ready to go at a moments notice tho.. :) think i still got it..

The ironic part is that I had been looking for a a suitable helmet like the ski-jumpers use in the weeks prior... don't know if it would have helped tho..

I also tried the tommays bike wreck impression... Not paying attention, I hit one of them damn things in a parking lot.. (damn she was cute! :D ) Lucky I did'nt break or shatter anything, other than folding the front wheel in half... mega road rash on the shoulder tho...

Re: Your Worst Wreck

I have had 2, both were pretty bad, but I survived without too much wrong with me.
Here is the first one.
I was driving a wrecker in Lexington, Ky. and was going on a call.
They had just put fresh blacktop down and it had just started to drizzle, went around a curve, rolled 3 times, twice in the air, and as they say the rest is history. 42 stitches in my left cheek, not the cheek of my face, and 25 in the back of my left leg.
npmavr.jpg

The next pic is a real bad one and how it happened was really weird.
People don't beleive me when I tell them, but I was on the side of the road taking a nap, this other truck was on the other side of the interstate, went to sleep and fell of the side of the road, spun around and came backwards into my truck at about 40 mph or so according to witnesses.

I ended up in the floorboard on the passenger side wondering WTH!!!

But all I got out of that was a few scratches and a broke finger.
And no, that is not why I am brain damaged. ;D
Notice where the door is suppose to be, that is the sleeper that you see, the seat was over on top of me.
Re: Your Worst Wreck

My first car was a '64 VW Sedan. It had a really lively pancake 1500 and was a lot of fun to drive. I was 18 at the time.

One night I had a girl with me, and we were tooling down a winding road, going through the town of San Elizario, a few miles east of El Paso, down along the Rio Grande. It was really dark, and the curves are pretty sharp. I was going about the speed limit, which I think was 45 mph.

I was rounding a curve when headlights suddenly turned on in front of me, maybe 100 feet ahead, and I was blinded. I had no idea which side of the road the guy was on. Being somewhat familiar with the area, I thought I would just brake and pull to the side of the road, but I reacted too quickly and with too much brake. The car started spinning and I smacked a utility pole. Hard!

The impact area was at just about the middle of my left thigh, and the car was somewhat wrapped around the pole. Had the impact been about eighteen inches more toward the rear of the car, it would have likely killed me. As it was, my car was totalled and it hurt to walk for about a week.

It could have been much, much worse.

Re: Your Worst Wreck

Mrs. QC took a loose wheel and tire in the face about three years ago. We were very lucky as she only had minor cuts. She actually drove this thing to the side of Interstate 15 with an escort form a Trucker behind her. The loose wheel was off of a Toyota pickup and had just been changed going the opposite direction, obviously he didn't get the lugs tight . . . Highway Patrol guessed at a combined speed of around 115 MPH when it hit, and says that these impacts are almost always fatal  They found the other guy trying to get away on three wheels just off the freeway.
