My boat is an '87 Starcraft, 19 ft. The hull has been turning chalky to the point I figured I would have to either buff it out or wet sand it. Well, I've been using Zymol on my truck & figured I would give it shot on my boat hull. I am amazed at the results. The Zymol has completely removed the chalkiness & the deep red color has returned. I have only done the transom, which was the worst looking, but I am going to do the entire hull. I have previously used 3m products, various polishes, & rubbing compound, with little or no effect. I did no prep work other than a good washing. Give it shot, it may work for you. I wish I could post pics, but my digital camera has bit the dust.

Re: Zymol

Hi!

You're kidding; right?

Exactly which Zymol product are you using? I'm gonna rush right out and buy some...I want to be sure to get the right one. (Zymol makes lots of stuff...both for the auto and marine marketplaces...)

That's a question I posted here earlier in the week...about whether there were any products out there that worked better on gel coat than the plethora of products that exist for automotive finishes.

Did you power buff or do it by hand? Was the Zymol one application...or a series of applications of cleaners...polishers and waxes???

Thanks so much..sure would like to see some pics !

Chuck

Re: Zymol

Why would I kid? I used the cleaner wax found in auto parts stores. Did it by hand, with 2 applications on some spots. I'm not saying it will work for everyone, just my own experience. However, I will need to wax as the finish is rather dull where the chalkiness was heavy. Don't know which wax I will use.

For the final shine, I use Nu Finish (orange bottle) on everything. Truck, boat, guitars, etc. Contains no silicone, easy to put on and lasts a long time. Cheap and available most everywhere too. I like the no-silicone part because if I ever want to touch up a little spot of paint I don't have to fight getting all the silicone out of pores in the finish.

I'm sure there are many others that would work equally well but this is my favorite.
