here's how the aluminum paint looks like in the sun.

Finished securing the bow area deck tonight.

We're going to use 3m 5200 to seal all the edges around the deck. We want the least amount of water to go down through the bow area were most of the foam is.

Have you considered using something like pipe insulation foam around the decking edge, then sealing the foam with 5200? That would keep the deck from chafing, plus add another layer of protection.

Just a thought.

That's kind of what we did. We filled the edges with spray in foam and trimmed the excess and coated it with 3M 5200.

you are really moving along!

I had heard at some point there was a specific reason to not use the spray foam on a boat...

Why is that? it seems to be working...

That paint is BRIGHT!

Hey EvilDoc ...nice job!

that Rustoleum Aluminum is the best aint it! it covers better than a primer....and looks sharp... & wow that fish box is huge!

it is blinding paint though...and we found out that its slippery as shi% too!!!! (wet shoes) so ya might wanna wet the deck a little and check it out.......mebbe some silica sand mix in a final coat?

Either way that aluminum paint is my paint of choice for primering stuff....we used rustoleum light tan for a transom/eng compartment and it took 4 coats to cover well................the silver took only one coat!

This sure has been your month with all the FREEBIE scores! looks like Poseidon is watching over you 2 !

I was afraid of the glare myself..

I am going with a medium tint grey for my interior color...

I want to avoid black for soaking up the heat, and white for the glare factor...

And everyone needs to avoid slick!

That is my $0.01 worth

We only used spray in foam at the edges to fill in so that it wouldn't take up so much 5200 when applying.
But I think the reason to not use spray in foam is because of the passages that could be blocked with the spray in foam. I think.

Yeah, the aluminum paint covers really well. We're only painting everything below the deck that color to give the wood some protection. We're thinking of paining everthing above the deck gloss white, but we don't know yet. We still don't know what we're gonna use for the non skit yet.

We still need to install 2 more fishboxes behind the CC. We're gonna go pick them up tomorrow.

When I was painting the deck outside of the boat, the glare was killing me. I noticed that it also reflects the heat really well, so it will definetely not be this color for fishing. It would be like an oven.

oh yeah, I see now...I missed the wood cross-members being painted...
it should hold up decently...... way better than no paint for sure! Either way it looks AWSOME!!!!!!!!!

I guess an experiment is in order for you non slip white/off white deck surface!

any suggestions fellas?

That's what we're still debating. My dad wants to use rattle can truck bed liner. It doesn't rattle my can, but I don't have a better solution. He wants to apply the truck bed liner and paint over it with white rustoleum.

I've been on a couple sport boats out of San Diego and they all have the decks painted gloss white,,, maybe a shade off-white. I didn't find the stark white blinding, but I was always wearing sunglasses. They use aggressive anti-skid (material unknown,,, sand?) that is very grippy, though I don't think I'd want to fall down onto it, could get some nice road rash.

So do you think the gloss white will be suitable, or should I go with something else like gray or so?

I'd go Rustoleum on top of Rustoleum. Put truck bed liner in between the 2 coats of enamel paint and the top coat could easily wear off.

Do a search, I've seen several threads where someone was painting the deck and using sand for anti-skid. I think the home improvement stores sell a ground rubber anti-skid additive too.

I'd go a bit off white if it were mine, but do what ever looks good to you. A quart of (black?) Rustoleum and a gallon or 2 of white should handle the job I'd think, tint the white to what ever looks good.

Holy Crap! I looked into the Durabak and it's expensive. One gallon for 140 bucks. That is crazy. I have to look for another option.

Thanks. I was thinking of looking for an off white color. I never thought of mixing it with black to tint it a bit. that makes sense. Thanks a million.
