Im going to go with a 40hp, on my original MFG Thread a few people said 40hp wouldnt be to much over, (rated at prop) 35hp or so.

Thats circular logic but justify overpowering how ever you want.

Your boat was built while OBs were powerhead rated, so the powerhead rated 40hp is a 40hp.

Uhmmm, IMHO soooo if it's HARD always look for an easier way??? Sometimes it's hard cuz you're not doing it the right way! I'd say you might want to consider a full transom replacement in the more traditional way. But, EVERYBODY KNOWS I'm just an Old Dumb Okie sooo you might want to take that in to consideration!!!:facepalm:

Chris Woody is correct .. For seacast you must remove all of the wood and clean the skins really well .. You can take a long paddle bit and bore a bunch of holes about an inch apart and then take the chainsaw to it .. This is the reason I chose to remove the inside skin to prep for seacast ... MUCH easier and your able to clean it really good .. I have used this stuff in a different application but it may be an option for you ... I have my reservations on using it for a transom ...

Hello, many of you may have seen my other threads about my MFG Carefree. Ive talked about seacasting it, and I have thought thee transom is completely rotted. Now its spring, and it got very much warmer so I started digging. I got about 2 - 3 inches down, and noticed there was no more rotted wood. it was dry and strong,it seemed only water seeped into the top! Now I did another test drill in many places, and it was all dry and no signs of rot. Now I have to fix this. I have a few ideas..... Please call me an idoit, because I have no idea if these would work!

- Buying a gallon of seacast, and just dumping it in!
- Make My own "peanutbutter" and dumb that down
- Pour in some peanutbutter until the smallholes, and crevices are filled, then start matting glass ontop of that.

These are my Ideas, as some of you no I am going with a 40hp on it, so its a little over power.

Which of these methods ^^^ did you use to finish the transom:

I posted a add on CL for somebody to dig it out. He had it done in half a day with a nice gas saw and a drill, only cost me 120$. HE also cleaned the skins for me. Only thing I had to do was pour seacast. I orded the seacast in early march, but really wanted to return it to buy a motor. End up just pouring it and sealing it up.... The transom got EXTREMELY hot for some reason, any idea why? I was conserined but it didnt damage anything, would getting really hot screw up the integerity of it? Was luck to find a motor for so cheap on CL. Was also supprised the seacast only took 3 days to come! Il post some pics of the project soon.

The seacast got hot because that's what it's supposed to do .. Hopefully you read the instructions and mixed it as per instructions ...
How did the guy clean the skins ? Did you give it a good acetone bath before the pour ?
Congrats on the pour ! A little pricey but that's something you will never have to worry about again ...
