I have tested spark at all plugs wires with the tester and they are good. I pulled the plugs yesterday and they do not appear wet.

The previous owner was talking me through it on the phone and that is what we tried to get her started. Before I would pump it 4 times and leave it in neutral and it would start just fine.

I have taken distributor cap off and it looks clean, less then 6 months old, and it is turning while I crank it over. Does it matter that the rotor is pointing at a different location from when I pulled the cap off and replaced it? Plug wired are correct and I have double checked it

I also double checked the spark gaps as I replaced the plugs.. Thanks for the help

No doesn't matter

Have you tried a little gas down the carb yet, not brake cleaner?

No but there is plenty of gas when I pull the throttle.. Carb appears to be putting plenty of gas. My neighbor who is a mechanic, thinks it is the ignition module, going to replace that tommorow. He had a tester and he said the pulses weren't often enough and he thinks that's it.. It's a cheap replace,my so I'm all for it

Ok, big update, in some desperate need of advice...

After working on the ignition system, we (my neighbor mechanic, with a good reputation) we were going to replace the pick up coil and the ignition module.

After replacing the ignition module, went to crank, heard a loud thud and the motor would not turn over at all. After one more attempt, it appeared that the starter was bad, as the starter was trying to engage the flywheel, but was not engaging. Removed the starter to replace and inspected the flywheel.... low and behold the flywheel tooth was completely broken off.

Fast forward two weeks, I get a new starter, new flywheel, and we start the procedure of lifting the motor to replace the flywheel and starter. Once we get the cover off of the flywheel, we attempt to turn the motor over with a prybar on the damaged flywheel, and it would not budge.. we removed the spark plugs, still wouldnt budge, and then we removed the belt and still would not budge...

My mechanic tells me the motor is done, something has seized and my two options are replace or rebuild. Based on the little I know, i believe that...

So a few questions.... can I replace that motor with a different motor, say a mercruiser or something else? Here on Oahu, there is only one place that has a volvo penta certified technician, and they have less then 1 star on yelp and have a horrible reputation...

I am going to call my insurance company and see if they can do anything for me, have you all heard of anything like that?

I am at my witts end.. i dont know what to do... the boat is only worth about 9k, and new motors look to run 4-6k and I dont have anyone around that can help install it

Please give me some advice lol...

Yes, Volvo makes the accessories that mount of the GM motor. You can use a Merc, or truck block, don't use a car block, the cam is different. If you do use a truck motor, you need to change the core plugs to brass and use circulating water pump. Use your intake, carb, distributer, fuel pump and other stuff.
