I know OMC means good luck finding parts but does anyone know where I can find a couple exhaust manifolds for a 1977 351W 235hp? I know somewhat about auto engines but little to nothing about marine engines & where to buy parts.

Check with your local NAPA store. The starboard manifold number is (I think) 0909215 and the port is 0909216. They're NLA, but NAPA may be able to cross reference for you.

I went through this a couple years back with my 302 which uses the same log style manifolds

check out this thread . I put some part numbers and things to help you with your search .

http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...outdrives/659072-omc-manifold-conversion-ford

basically if you are looking for new manifolds you will have to convert to center risers . other than that your only options are the log or banana style manifolds , but those havent been made in ages

Have any of you done the conversion to center risers? I am mechanically inclined but is it a major PITA? For $875 the whole conversion kit looks promising but am worried fitmit might be different from boat to boat. I don't want to be re-ordering several times to get the correct elbows & tubes to make it fit properly.

Twainer ,

was worried about that too , but dont stress over it . The 90 degree elbow and 2 hoses fit in there pretty dang straight with no bends , you just have to eyeball and put the 90 in the right spot = then its a straight shot down to the intermediate .

and like I put in my thread , use softwall hose not hardwall. There is no need for hardwall hose there as there is no major bends.

This is the kit I was looking at. Looks to have everything for the conversion.

Is one brand of manifolds & risers better than the other?

Ayuh,.... Barr or Osco I believe are American products of decent quality,.....

GLM or HGE are chinese, 'n is crappy quality,....

I have a set of GLMs that leaked like a sieve, til I remachined the gasket surfaces,.....

No Title

I purchased this manifold kit & am getting ready to mount them & noticed they only have 4 mounting bolts to the heads not 8. Is this correct for this conversion? It's Sierra center riser conversion kit #18-1998-K5 & installing them on a 1977 351W OMC.

Yup that's correct , mine have 4 on each side as well . Apparently it's for better exhaust flow.

As bondo hinted around at above , double check the riser to manifold surfaces with a straight edge to make sure you get a perfect seal .

Other than that , that kit has everything you need .

Did you get that kit off eBay ?

Wow! I wouldn't think you would get a good seal & would leave more room for warping down the road. Haven't put a straight edge on it yet. If it is slightly off can a guy hit it with a sanding block?
Yes got it off ebay. A little more than $800. Could have got other kits for a little less but they were the brands Bondo was talking about so I went with Sierra.

Ayuh,.... A belt sander, or flat file,....

It's a massive castin', 4 bolts hold it plenty tight,....
It's plenty rigid, 'n marine manifolds don't glow red, so warpage is pretty much unheard of,....
