I see what you mean, I was able to lower unit a little more- if I can keep the water from splashing out too much: is this enough water?-the hole in the picture is just under the water

what about the cylinder temp? coil question?

Thanks Frank

Certainly the pump is either shot or you haven't filled the barrel up enough. once the thermostats pop open, you should see it barf like a broken garden hose. temp looks great.

Test temp on top of the head (may show a little hotter where you are checking). You should see around 140F or a little less, but safe under 160F. The pump is located on the first joint in the leg above the plate.

Where are you located on Keuka?

On the east side of the bluff, between the marina and the sheriff's camp

Right now the boat is up here in Irondequoit. Most of the launch ramps are closed because of the high water- if I get it running a little better, I might try the river, but a lot of logs right now

(I hope the IJC gets it together.) I got it running again and the pump seems to be working, when I turn it off, I can hear the water drain out of the block.
I checked the spark while it was running, and the neon tube is strong on cylinders # 2 & 4 and on the coil lead, but hardly any spark on # 1 and no spark on #3.
what would cause that?

I put on another distributor cap and wires from my Evinrude parts motor- spark on all four cylinders! I'll try it out in the river to see if I have a fuel problem too. right now it idles well in the barrel.
ps. Does anyone on Kueka Lake still work on those old motors? (1967 80 hp Johnson)

Should probably avoid Morgan Marine in Penn Yan (new stuff). Nichols Restoration might work on it (Branchport).
