It's not all doom and gloom. You are an auto tech so you know how to use spanners right ?
Get a Johnson service manual specific to your motor and year then read on removing the power head and take it from there. I stay in Scotland and had to get a service manual for my motor a Johnson 140. I had to get it sent from the USA it was something like £40 all in. Its worth the money anyway of the week. If you have some imperial spanners and sockets you can fix this problem.
There are some really knowledge people on here who will help get you through this. So go on Ebay get a manual and let's get this fixed.😁
if you can't get a manual let me know see if I can help out

Well ---We all know that it is a 2 cycle / 2 stroke engine.-----Not sure why that is still a mystery to you.

so is there a way to be positive its a 2 cycle?
hello all, I have a 1974 Johnson 115

These only came in 2-stroke. Would be twenty years before Johnson had 4 strokes.

How long has your family owned this motor?
No way it ran its entire life without oil. The PO would have run oil in the gas.

Sounds like it has simply been seizing up all these years since you acquired it due to zero lubrication.
This is why they used to print owners' manuals. :)

Mix about 3 oz. 2-cycle oil with each gallon of gas, and see if it will run. Make sure the water level in your test tank is about half way up the shaft, and run the motor as an idle. If you have not replaced the impeller in the lower unit, that should be a first priority.

I am with you 100% on that one. After re-reading the opening post on the thread.
