1981 evinrude E70ELCIH, bought a mfg 16 foot gypsy 4 years ago. Bad transom Bought 16 foot Sylvain put moter from gypsy on Sylvain. Took it out didn't get hole shot eventually would plan out and tech out around 45g.this year tried sync base timming but blew lower unit finally fixed that. Took out over weekend thought I had it down still stuck at 3g. Checked coils changed one.plugs one time too rich last time to lean pulled carbs clean as clean can get.changed plugs took back out tyres choking it sputters sprayed fluid all 3 carbs sputters.compresson cylinder 1-120 2-110 3 122. But I have noticed when I was at 45g charging was at 13.5 at 3g 12.5 trim up or down drops to 12 and slowly creeps back to 12.5.last year I crossed neg and positive blew rectifier and I replaced it.either iam not linking and syncing correctly or ignition system is falling .when I sync it timmer base all the way to black stopper at wot then adjusted 4 degrees less at idle calls for 19 degrees so I set it for 15

I'm banging my head trying to make sense of what you wrote. Steam of consciousness posting isn't working.

I'm going to try;

1981 evinrude E70ELCIH with 1-120 2-110 3 122 compression. Cleaned the carbs and trying to link and sync. Is 15 degrees right?

I don't know what 45g and 3g mean, but are you saying the battery voltage drops when trimming the motor?

At 3000 rpms voltage sits at 12.5 volts and at 4500 rpms goes to 13.5 volts I know higher rpms the more voltage u get but when I trim up or down voltage drops to 12 and slowly goes back to 12.5 volts. I never get passed 12.5 volts that is where Ian wondering if ignition is running off the battery?

Battery Voltage should drop when using the tilt and trim. When you are at 4500 rpm you should be seeing closer to 16 volts unless you bought a regulator rectifier. How did you clean the carbs did you soak them and put new kits in? Do you have a manual for your motor? If not get one preferably a factory manual for your specific motor. Is the timer base sticking? Have you done a proper spark check? Spark must jump a 7/16" gap. Tilt and trim has nothing to do with the electrical from the motor. That system is fed straight from the battery. Turn off your spell check.

The ignition system does NOT use 12 volts from the battery to make the spark.-------That is all done by electronics and the spinning magnets in the flywheel.-----The motor will start / run with a dead battery when pulled over with a rope.
